摘要：Modern statistical methodsprovide a powerful fool to address complex statistical issues arising inclinical research. Harnessing the powerof such methods can be quite a challenging task, even for professionalbiostatisticians. Too often, a range ofcompeting methods is available and it can be quite difficult to determine theapproach most appropriate to address the issues at hand, especially when one needsto defend the approach used, as is often the case in grant applications andmanuscript publications. Many statisticalmodels may seem quite similar, but can actually produce quite different resultswith completely different interpretations. Also, as statistical packages become ever “user-friendly”,it is tempting to use them without having a good understanding of theunderlying statistical methods as well as the quality of the implementation ofthe methods by the packages. In thistalk, I discuss a range of popular statistical methods for clinical researchand appropriate contexts for their applications within the context of mentalhealth research using both data from both real and simulated study data.

现担任美国罗彻斯特大学生物统计系副系主任，终身教授，咨询中心主任，美国国防部下属军人医院研究中心Center of Excellence生物统计带头人。Xin Tu教授在美国罗彻斯特大学生物统计系领导的团队由两个副教授，4个助理教授，3个博士后，2个程序员和一些博士生组成。Xin Tu教授作为副系主任，统计咨询中心主任在带领团队期间产出了大量的科研成果，XinTu教授在统计方法论和医学应用方面有重大的学术贡献。如Xin Tu教授的关于pooling test 的文章发表在统计A+期刊biometrika 上，Xin Tu教授也有论文发表在顶级医学期刊JAMA 上。Xin Tu教授共发表SCI论文近200 篇，著书四本，承担和参与的美国国家项目累计超过1000万美元。其参与的文章还受到了BBC news的报道。这篇文章的重要意义在于对于氯氮平类的精神抑制药会有代谢性的综合症反应，从而引起中风，高血压，糖尿病的风险。这篇文章发表在美国精神病学的顶级杂志American Journal of Psychiatry。这个研究是精神病学领域的重大发现，受到了BBC news的报道，广为人知。屠教授作为这个项目的首席生物统计学家，对这个研究具有重要贡献。

Xin Tu教授在近五年指导博士生13人，其中10人已毕业。在近五年指导硕士生2人，2人均已毕业。Xin Tu教授培养的学生也取得了众多的荣誉。

Xin Tu教授在统计方法论以及医学领域应用方面成果卓越。他也是医疗大数据分析与应用方面的专家。他培养的博士有的在名校如康奈尔，约翰霍普金斯大学担任Director,有的在国际一流研究型医院St Jude children'shospital（白血病治疗方法的发源地）担任资深研究员，有的进入美国大型医药公司从事临床实验研究。XinTu教授是生物统计和医疗信息方面的国际一流专家。

Xin Tu教授研究的范围包括longitudinal data analysis，missing data，U statistics，robust statistics，semi-parametric model，survival analysis,causal inference, functional response models ,social network analysis and bigdata analysis 以及其在医学方面的深刻应用。今年来Xin Tu教授更是关注医疗大数据方面的分析和应用。
