摘要：

Technological breakthroughs are now allowing the comprehensive descriptions of phenomes, genomes, gene expression, protein and metabolite accumulation patterns and microbial populations in any biological or clinical system. The derived large data sets  (“big –data”) require the development of muliti-disciplinary research teams including biological and computer scientists to work in partnership into under to curate, organise, analyse and integrate different types of datasets.

The Institute of Biological, Environmental and Rural Sciences (IBERS) and the Computer Science Department at Aberystwyth University are working together on a series of projects, which focus on the analyses of big data. In this talk, I will highlight examples from plant science where phenomics, genomic variation and metabolomics are being integrated and from clinical science; how metabolomics and metabolomics are revealing new insights into respiratory disease.

Prof. Luis A. J. Mur is Director of Research for Biology and Health at IBERS and leads many ‘omic project. He hopes that this talk will facilitate the development of new collaborations with Huazhong Agricultural University (Wuhan).
